Singer and songwriter, Made Kuti, has revealed that he sees himself as a Pan-Africanist.
The son of Afrobeat musician Femi Kuti stated this during an interview to promote his recently released music album, “Chapter 1 Where Does Happiness Come From?”.

Speaking during the interview, monitored by The Octopus News, Made noted that he considered himself a Pan-Africanist because he sensed that he had a strong belonging in Nigeria, in Africa.
Furthermore, he said, “I was very blessed; I had a formal education in music in London, but as soon as my last class was done, I came back.”

Made, who distanced himself from activism, saying that he is not an activist, also spoke about artists who sing about extravagance.
He said: “Whether I think other musicians should be political or be an activist with their song, I don’t think so, I think balance is important. Music that speaks to the ‘self’ is just as important as music that just wants to make love or dance.
“I don’t think love songs are bad, and I don’t think a man or a woman singing about an extravagant lifestyle is bad, if they feel that is what they are creating or communicating. But I think art has to be diverse, but there is a responsibility for everybody to do what they do within a confine, and understand the consequences of creativity. If you do something good or popular, but it has a terrible message, you are responsible for what comes out of it,” Made said.

“Chapter 1: Where Does Happiness Come From?” is Made Kuti’s second album, released on July 25, 2025.
The 13-track body of work explores social commentary and emotional reflection. Explored themes include personal growth, social realities, and the challenges faced by young Nigerians.
In this body of work, Made blends traditional Afrobeat with jazz, punk rock, hip-hop, and calypso, infused with a modern energy.
Highlighted as notable tracks in the album are songs like “Take It All In Before The Lights Go Out,” “Life As We Know It,” “I Won’t Run Away,” and “You Can’t Hide”.
“Chapter 1: Where Does Happiness Come From?” also features a guest appearance by Made’s dad, Femi Kuti, on the track “Story”.
