The presidency has reacted to the formation of an opposition coalition in the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Reacting to the party, the presidency noted that the coalition will fall apart within six months, citing a lack of ideology and any real alternative agenda for Nigerians.
Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, noted that the coalition poses no genuine threat. He pointed out that even Datti Baba-Ahmed, Labour Party’s 2023 vice-presidential candidate, recently warned that the struggle over who becomes the presidential flag bearer could destabilize the alliance. Baba-Ahmed had advised citizens not to get carried away by the initial excitement surrounding the coalition.
Bwala dismissed the ADC coalition as a gathering of “internally displaced politicians” unable to propose credible policies. “They have not brought a single alternative policy to the table. All they do is criticise and issue press statements. The truth is, they lack vision and have not shown Nigerians they truly care,” he said.
He also downplayed any threat to President Tinubu’s administration, insisting the alliance is too unstable to last. “We all know that once there is a phenomenon like that, there will be two to three weeks of romanticising ideas. But as Datti himself noted, the biggest problem will be who becomes president — everybody wants it. Within six months, that coalition will scatter,” he said.
