There was a time when a block of buildings with the signage “hotel” was considered worthy of anybody’s definition of hospitality.
These days, that definition has fallen short with some of the most tastefully built and furnished hotels scattered around Nigeria.
International franchises, including Marriott Hotel, and Intercontinental Hotel, among others, have since taken the hospitality scene big time, making wowing impressions, while local brands like Radisson Blue and Eko Hotel and Suites have not been left out in making an impression on their guests.
However, not all investors are aware of the fact that the bus has been remodeled into a jet, as per what makes up a worthy hotel. One person who is oblivious to this fact is Hon. Yusuf Sulaimon Lasun, the former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives of Nigeria who served between 2015 and 2019.
While serving as deputy speaker, Hon. Lasun built a magnificent, edifice, a four-star hotel located in serene Osogbo, the capital city of Osun State named LAIM Hotel. Then, when the hotel was built, the taste and style of the politician were reflected in the hotel boasting a state-of-the-art restaurant, conference hall, exotic suits, and bar among other luxuries that make up a world-class hotel.
Located at Plot B4 & B5, Block 11, Rt. Hon. Lasun Yusuf Crescent, Oroki Industrial Layout, Ring Road, Okinni, Osogbo, Osun State, the hotel was a desire to both the body and soul.
So adored was LAIM Hotel that every person of timber and caliber who visited Osogbo wanted to stay there. These were the qualities that the hotel boasted years back.
Today, while the structure of the hotel remains almost the same, it is not the same as the services rendered, as the hotel struggles to provide a variety for guests when it comes to breakfast. Also, the arrival point turns into a sea of water when it rains, while the nonchalant attitude at the hotel bar is another story altogether, with guests who want to use it having to wait endlessly before being attended to.
For a man like Hon. Lasun who is known for his taste, there is no doubt that he is unaware of these shortcomings at his hotel. However, who will tell him?
