Defamation: Judge Order Police, DSS To Arrest VDM

A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Wuse Zone 6, Abuja has ordered the arrest of Martin Otse Vincent.
Vincent, a social media crusader and self-acclaimed activist is popular as VeryDarkMan.
Magistrate Emmanuel Iyana sitting in Abuja ordered VeryDarkMan’s arrest following a defamation suit instituted by gospel singer, Mercy Chinwo.
Magistrate Iyana who was furious that the defendant was not in court ordered the police and the Department of State Services (DSS) to arrest him.
Despite an appeal by Deji Adeyanju, VeryDarkMan’s lawyer for the Magistrate to give him the grace to produce the activist in court on the next appearance date, the Magistrate orders security agencies to find and produce VDM in court.
VDM was said to have defamed Chinwo when he accused Chinwo in an online post of misappropriating $345,000 allegedly linked to her former record label boss, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, also known as Eezee Tee.
In the criminal complaint filed by Chinwo’s legal team, led by Pelumi Olajengbesi of Law Corridor, the singer argued that VDM’s actions violated Sections 391 of the Penal Code and Section 24(1)(B) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2015.
Chinwo also filed a N1.1 billion defamation lawsuit against the blogger at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
