Obasa Returns As Speaker Of Lagos House Of Assembly

Impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, RT. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa has been sworn in as the substantiate Speaker of the 8th Lagos State House of Assembly.
Obasa took the oath of office following the resignation of Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, the former Speaker of the House.
In a vial video spotted on social media, Obasa was seen taking his oath of office with the Holy Quran, marking his return as the third most powerful man in the Lagos State government.
It would be recalled that Obasa was impeached on 13th January 2025, while he was away in America. He was impeached on grounds of abuse of office and misconduct.
However, following an ensuing crisis that rocked the House, a suit Obasa instituted in court and a meeting of Lagos All Progressive Congress (APC) stakeholders, it was agreed that his impeachment was illegal, and he should be reinstalled.
The meeting was attended by key APC members, including former National Chairman Chief Bisi Akande, former Osun State Governor Chief Olusegun Osoba, ex-Commissioner for Justice Dr. Muiz Banire, members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), and lawmakers.
Earlier today, the Lagos State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Cornelius Ojelabi, met with Meranda and Obasa on how to put an end to the festering crisis.
Both pro-Obasa lawmakers and those who had pledged support for Meranda attended the meeting. It is believed that the meeting accelerated Meranda’s resignation paving the way for Obasa’s return.
