Senator Orji Kalu, the Senate Chief Whip, has stated that the All Progressive Congress (APC) will be in trouble in the 2023 general election if it does not field a Muslim Muslim candidacy.
This comes after several organisations including the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Civil Rights Advocacy group; Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) had expressed concern over the presentation of a Muslim-Muslim ticket by the APC.
Kalu, who supports the ruling party’s planned Muslim-Muslim ticket; claimed that if the party considers any other aspect and abandons the notion; it will struggle to win the presidential election.
“If we don’t play the Muslim Muslim ticket, we are in trouble…It will be difficult to win the election because the only thing left for Ahmed Tinubu today is to play a Muslim-Muslim ticket,” Orji Kalu.
Kalu who spoke while addressing journalists at the National Assembly on Wednesday, June 15, however, assured Christians that there was no need to be concerned; noting that Tinubu’s wife is a pastor who would always put the people’s interests first.
