Golden Diet

Fast-rising Disc Jockey, DJ Enimoney, is almost a household name. The younger brother of indigenous rapper Olamide spoke about his career in this interview and the surprises surrounding his song ‘Golden Diet’ .

Tell us a little about your work in the music industry.

I have been in this game for about 11 years now, so it’s been a long time.

You are a DJ who also does music, what attracted you to the latter?

I have always loved music from when I was a toddler. Music found me because I was just sitting somewhere when music found me.

How does a graduate of Computer Science end up being a DJ?

After school, I became a DJ and have been doing that for a while. I have not had time to further my education, but soon I will be furthering my education and going for my Masters by the grace of God.

What inspires your songs?

I don’t know. My music comes in different ways, and I can do anything I want when I want it. If you are in the studio and you want to do music, it’s all about the way it comes to you. You can’t just go to the studio and say that you want to sing. I am a DJ, and I can do any genre I want. I can do Apala, I can do Juju and I can do whatever I want.

Your rise to stardom was unprecedented, how did you do it?

My success has been with the help of God and my fans. I have made it to this point, and I know that I am still going far.

DJ Enimoney

There are those who say that being Olamide’s brother helped your rise, what do you say?

It’s normal for people to talk like that. Olamide is my brother and if I take advantage of his fame what is wrong with that? It is a normal thing.

Your song ‘Golden Diet’ featured a lot of stars, how did a fast-rising act manage that?

That happened with the help of God because I never expected those people to be on the song. We are talking about music heavy weights such as Reminisce, Tiwa Savage and Slimcase. It was God’s doing. It just happened that night and it was like I won a lottery.

At this point in your career, what would you tag yourself?

It depends on my fans and what they want to call me. I am DJ Enimoney.

A lot of people see different things when they look at you, who really are you?

I am a humble guy. It is the way you see me that you address me. I am a gentleman.

You can be very energetic when performing; do you use anything before going on stage?

As you can see I am very calm. My eyes are clear and I am very fine and nothing is in my system. This sunshade is just for the show. Every human being has their ginger, but for me, God is my ginger.

Are you saying that you don’t get high before taking to the stage?

No I don’t. I drink alcohol, but I don’t do it before getting on stage. If I want to work I don’t drink, I don’t smoke, I don’t do anything. However, after my performance if I feel that I have done great I celebrate.

What do you smoke?

I don’t smoke.

Tell us the secret of the energy you exhibit on stage?

The energy is from God. It is God that gives me the energy and I am using it right.

An advice for those who get high before hitting the stage?

If they like it they should continue and if they don’t like it they should stop. If it doesn’t fit their system, they should stop it.

You dropped some singles in 2018, should we be expecting an album soon?

Expect anything because I don’t know what I will be dropping next. It could be an album, a single or an EP. It all depends on how my fans react to the songs I drop.

Are we going to see a collaboration between you and your brother anytime soon?

It will come out very soon.

What is your perception of African music?

African music is number one. There is nothing anyone can say, we have taken over already, we are even there already.

As a musician, who do you look up to for inspiration?

As a DJ, I don’t look up to anybody because I listen to all kind of music. I don’t look up to anyone.

You call yourself a DJ, are you saying that you are not a singer?

I am a DJ. I am not an artist.
