The Yoruba adage, which says, ‘Kokoro to nje efo, inu efo lo wa’, literarily meaning ‘the pest that is desecrating the flower, lives inside the flower’, is really phenomenal. This is exactly what summarizes the nefarious activities of a guy that works with Otunba Mike Adenuga Jnr’s telecoms company, Globacom.
This dude is sure playing out this saying, as he is a great disservice to the billionaire businessman. Of course, it is a known fact that the “Bull” and corporate icon is a very reclusive but very articulate businessman, who has vast interests in top-notch sectors of the economy viz telecommunications, banking, oil and gas just to mention a few.
The story you are about to read is not about the astuteness and indefatigability or coyness of the multibillionaire business mogul, neither is it about how he gives a near free hand and independence to operate to many of his trusted aides and principal officers, most of whom have not betrayed him, except for this ungrateful one who is of the same Yoruba stock with the large-hearted man. His first name starts with the letter R while his surname starts with the letter O, and is a Muslim by birth. For the record, R.O has been in the telecoms company for years, working close to the ‘Bull’ in the chairman’s office, cutting corners to maximize profits to his selfish advantage.
As you read this, he is the de facto manager in charge of payment of contractors and clearing at the ports. He also allocates the maintenance of Globacom base sites to contractors. Before we digress, let’s quickly inundate you that our man R.O, who also doubles as a top-aide of Otunba at his Banana Island office, has been flagrantly betraying this huge confidence reposed in him by Oga Patapata, through his deft moves at circumventing some of the company’s businesses. To start with, R.O who took over the designation from Tunde Akinyera few years ago, has a proxy office by name Metrotech in Raji Oba, Winners area, Iyana Ipaja, Lagos. The company is said to be headed by his childhood friend, known as Tunde Onibudo.
The dark but crafty R.O. has been outsourcing most lucrative base sites of Globacom to Metrotech through his manipulative moves, translating into millions of Naira on regular basis, even as he has other parallel interests via companies and similar business ventures. This guy’s method of outsmarting other contractors in the bid for base sites is so perfectly played out that he unilaterally diverts base sites to Tunde Onibudo’s Metrotech.Those in the know divulged that R.O and Onibudo, grew up together at Abesan Estate many years back, even before this golden opportunity came knocking on their doors. They are now jointly pilfering substantial money from Globacom, which is daily thinning the hitherto humongous finances of the telecoms company. So stupendously rich now from these sharp practices is R. O. that he has acquired so much, such that he now owns properties in posh areas of Lagos. He is even said to have completed his hotel in Ikeja, and yet another one under construction on the outskirts of Lagos. But who can blame him, since the Big Boss is so naturally trusting and never suspicious of any staff he reposes much confidence in.
Another unwholesome and gross insubordination activity of R. O is the he is alleged to own Mobil Filling Station, somewhere in Ikotun area on the outskirts of Lagos, and this is what many industry watchers see as another act of disloyalty, betrayal and dishonesty of the highest pedestal. Their argument is that Otunba Mike Adenuga also has a vast interest in another oil conglomerate known as Consolidated Oil, (Conoil). So why would someone that works for him, invest in another similar business outside his boss’ own? That is how R. O. has been abusing the many privileges at his disposal with reckless abandon and fearless mien. As you read this, he still goes on brazenly in his untoward acts, not just biting, but devouring the fingers that feed him.
One hopes the multibillionaire and very resourceful Globacom boss is reading this before this ungrateful man and his agent milk the company dry. Please stay tuned as we shall unveil his identity soon.
