Friday, February 14th was a memorable day in Calabar, as the MTN sponsored Nite of a Thousand Laughs,  Nigeria’s leading stand-up comedy show, took place at the Cultural Centre.

Nigeria’s music rave, Terry G, was on hand to excite the massive crowd that thronged the venue, as everyone was trying to catch a glimpse of the “Free Madness” crooner who came ringing his “bell” as he sang and danced on stage. Ace comedian, Gordons, did not allow his performance to be outdone by Terry G, as he dished out fresh rib-cracking jokes that almost made the fans forget the mind-blowing performance of Terry G.

“Warri No Dey Carry Last”.  This was Gandoki’s tongue-in-cheek response to the challenge posed by the performances of those before him, which means people from Warri, Delta State, are streetwise. And that was exactly what he did with his jokes  as he stepped on stage to deliver what was arguably the best performance of his career to the appreciation of the enthralled fun-seekers who came to enjoy themselves.

The audience did not go home empty handed, as MTN, the leading ICT Company in Africa, gave out goody bags.  There was also a raffle draw that saw 5 people emerge as winners.  The quiz that saw couples being asked questions about MTN Dobox, a platform that allows people to rent and watch the movies they love on their phones, also saw some couples walk home with mouth-watering prizes.

Other acts that performed on the day included  Koboko, Funny Bones, Professor Aboki and Monkals. Some young and upcoming talents were also given the chance of a life time to perform on a big platform like the MTN Nite of a Thousand Laughs.

The show which held on the same day the world celebrated Valentine’s Day, a day set aside for sharing love with family, friends and the general public, kicked off at 7pm and ended in the early hours of the next day.
