Highlife Doyen, Victor Olaiya Is Dead

Nigeria’s doyen of highlife music, Dr. Victor Olaiya, is dead.

The legendary musician’s death was announced by Bimbo Esho, Managing Director of Evergreen Music Company Limited.

According to a statement signed by Esho,  the music legend died this afternoon at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).

Part of Esho’s statement read:

“The entire music world wishes to announce the death of a legend of highlife music one of  the last man standing, the last of the original Dr Victor Abimbola Olaiya OON..

“This untimely incident happened at Luth hospital Lagos State at exactly 12noon today Wednesday 12th of February, 2020..

“We pray that the Doyen of highlife music find repose with the creator while wishing the family and entire music community the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss.. And to my name sake Abimbola Olaiya I will miss your contribution to HIGHLIFE MUSIC.”

Dr. Olaiya was 89 years old when he died.

A critic of music producer, Don Jazzy, has received a cash gift of a N100, 000.

The producer had shared a post on social media attracting the criticism of a none fan.

The tweet read: “Baba GOD abeg where make I stand so that when manna fall, e go fall inside my basin.”

However, he got a harsh reply from his critic.

On asking the critics problem and being told that he was hungry due to the Covid-19 lockdown, Don Jazzy surprised his critic with a N100, 000.00 deposit.

Popular musician, D’banj, took to social media to celebrate his wife, Lineo Didi Kilgrow.

Kilgrow turned a year older on Monday, March 30 and the singer wrote some choice words for the mother of his son.

The singer took to Instagram to state that he has been through a lot with his wife in a short time, adding that they’ve always ended up at the better and brighter side of life.

Simi Sends Cryptic Message

Studio Brat artiste, Simi, has sent a cryptic message to Pastor David Oyedepo.

Recall that Oyedepo had been criticised for going on with a congregational service despite an order by the state government for people to maintain social distance.

In a social media post, she called for a change in the strategy for managing the pandemic in the country.

Simi, who stated that fear was the only thing that Nigerians appreciates more than religion, revealed that everything in the country needs to be shut down now.

According to her, “If they insist on going to church, show them the stories of churches abroad where the virus spread. These religious heads need to start being more responsible. People respect you, act like you deserve the respect. Be compassionate and tell your followers to stay home.”
