Dangote breaks ground on $1 billion cement plant in Edo State

Billionaire businessman, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has shut up critics of his Okpella Cement Factory, located in Edo State, following a ground breaking ceremony of the project on Sunday, April 10.

Notable individuals including Governors, former Governors, Secretary to State Governments, Ministers, Emir, Obas, House of Representative Chief Whip, Senators and former Senators were at the event which witnessed a lot of pomp and garland amid praises for the president of Dangote Group.

The Okpella Cement Factory is a six million metric tonnes per annum plant located in Etsako East local Government Area of Edo State.

Described as a multi-billion dollar project by the Edo State Governor, Governor Adams Aliyu Oshiomole, it put to rest rumours of Dangote Group sidelining the interest of the Nigerian youths, as the project is expected to create ample employment for youths in the local government and the state at large. It is expected to be completed in 26 months. The plant will also provide 6,000 direct jobs and 45,000 indirect jobs in the community.

This fact is buttressed by the mammoth youthful crowd that witnessed the event displaying exemplary sense of maturity, and adding colour to the event.

Notably present at the landmark event were names such as Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, the Governor of Kogi State ably represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Folashade Ayoade, former Governor of Ogun State, Aremo Olusegun Osoba and former Governor of Ekiti State, Otunba Niyi Adebayo. Other are former governor of Ekiti State and presently the Honourable Minister for Solid Minerals, Dr. Kayode Fayemi and Honuorable Minister of Trade, Investment and Tourism, Dr Okechukwu Enelamah ably represented by the Minister of State for Trade, Investment and Tourism, Hajia Aisha Abubakar.

Also present at the high-octane event were the Emir of Kano, His Royal Highness, Muhammadu Sanusi II and his high-powered delegation, Oba of Benin, Omo n’oba Erediauwa, who was represented by senior palace Chiefs, the Otaru of Auchi, HRH Alhaji Aliru Momoh, Ikelebe III, the Okuokpellagbe of Okpella, HRH Alhaji AYE Dirisu, Senate Deputy Chief Whip, Senator Francis Alimikhena, Hon Philip Shaibu, Hon Peter Akpatasson, Hon Abubakar Momoh, Speaker of the Edo State House of Assemby, Rt Hon Victor Edoror, Chairman Zenon Oil, Femi Otedola, Chairman, Airlines Operators of Nigeria, Captain Noggie Meggison, Cecil Hammond, Godwin Obaseki, Tunde Lemo, former Deputy Governor, CBN; Comrade Isa Aremu, Alhaji Sani Dangote, Chief Kola Jomodu, Chief Mike Ogiadomhe, former Chief of Staff to the President; Prince Malik Afegbua, Rev Peter Obadan, former Deputy Governor Edo State and Asue Ighodalo.

In an event of this nature, it wasn’t a matter of who was there, but of who was not there.
