At last, the former Governor of Osun State and estranged National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola has dumped the PDP for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He will on Tuesday, 5th August, 2014 formally defect to the ruling APC in Osun state during the grand finale of the party’s campaign rally for the re-election of Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

Impeccable sources told thegazellenews.com that arrangements have been perfected by the APC in the state to receive Oyinlola into the party’s fold.

Oyinlola was said to have met with the leadership of the APC and is expected to defect to the party alongside his supporters in all the 30 local government areas of the state.

It could be recalled that Oyinlola was conspicuously absent at the campaign rally of the PDP where President Goodluck Jonathan and other national leaders of the party including the party’s National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Muazu addressed the gathering.

Oyinlola was seen in Osogbo on Monday, 4th August, 2014 in a motorcade after he had reportedly met with some of his loyalists and some APC leaders in the state.

Sources told our correspondent that the fromer governor will on Tuesday, 5th August, 2014, be received by notable leaders of the APC including the National Chairman, Chief John Oyegun and the party National Leaders: Major General Muhammad Buhari and Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu among others.

Oyinlola was Governor of Osun state from 2003 to November, 2010 when Governor Rauf Aregbesola took over from him following a judgment of the Court of Appeal which nullified the election of Oyinlola.

Oyinlola later contested for the post of the PDP National Secretary and won but was later removed by a court injunction and thus replaced by Professor Wale Oladipo who is also an indigene of Osun state.

An Appeal Court has however returned the former Governor to the office but he has not been reinstated by the leadership apparently because of his closeness and loyalty to former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.

Oyinlola has always insisted that he would only come out to campaign for Iyiola Omisore’s election as Governor of Osun State if he was reinstated as the National Secretary of the PDP as ruled by the Appeal Court, an order the party has not obeyed since but rather decided to take the matter to the Supreme Court.

However, the PDP in Osun State while reacting to the development said it remains intact despite the defection of Oyinlola.

According to the state Publicity Secretary of the party, Prince Bola Ajao, “the PDP will win the governorship election in the state whether Oyinlola leaves the party or he remains there, saying that “we are not bothered with the defection of Oyinlola.
