In civilized climes, one of the major responsibilities of the Senate is to work on important legislative and constitutional reforms that can better the lot of its masses and move the country forward in the long run.

If the Senate fails in its responsibilities the country to a large extent is doomed. Hence, its leadership is not a position to be toyed with.

As the next Senate President gets set to emerge, one matter which is important is to ensure that a man of questionable and dubious characters does not get chosen.

With names including that of Senator Bukola Saraki been bandied around as likely persons to emerge Senate President www.theoctopusnews unveils why the erstwhile Governor of Kwara State is unfit to be the leader of the Senate.

Saraki, might have succeeded in turning himself into a political warlord in Kwara State, defeating even his father’s choice in an election, but his inability to bond with his immediate family is something else. How can a man who has failed his own family seek to lead the Senate of a country. Is Saraki’s betrayal of his sister Gbemi not legendary enough.

Little wonder, his party chieftain Bola Tinubu has been allegedly quoted as saying “characters like Saraki are not fit for such leadership position with emphasis on leadership style, questionable character all in contrast to those exhibited by former Speaker Aminu Tambuwal, winning him deserved sympathy and leading him to grater heights.

The financial atrocities of Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has also revealed the leadership style of Saraki, after all Saraki singularly picked the sitting governor.

Abdulfatah’s reign has been dented by alleged frauds including contract inflation regarding upgraded hospitals in the state which the Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), alleged the Governor of inflating from N1.4b to N2.7b.

The governor is not however to be faulted, as his mentor Saraki till date has not been able to provide answer to how local government funds totaling a whooping N6 billion went missing on the road to 2007.

Men of these character are definitely not Senate President material.
