Thumbs Up For Queen Of Afropop, Tiwa Savage

Singer, Tiwa Savage, has been receiving commendations since her enviable feat.

The songstress inked her name as the first female act to win the ‘Best African Act’ category at the MTV Europe Music Awards.

Tiwa Savage, who in recent times has dropped songs such as ‘Tiwa’s Vibe’, ‘Get It Now’, ‘Lova Lova’, ‘Ma Lo’ and others beat top musicians including DWM boss Davido to win the award.

Nominated alongside legendary musician Fally Ipupa, Distruction Boyz, Shekhinahd and Nyashinski, Tiwa Savage came out top in the award ceremony which took place on Sunday, November 4, in Bilbao, Spain.

The award is a special one for the songstress who won with her first nomination. Tiwa Savage’s road to where she is presently didn’t begin yesterday. Prior to now, the singer had won tons of awards.

As a rising act, in 2011, she won awards such as the Fab Magazine Award for the category Most Stylish Female Artiste, Dynamix All Youths Award for Most Promising Act, Afrotainment Museke Online Music Award for Best R&B Soul Song and City People Entertainment Award for Female Musician of the Year.

In 2012, Tiwa Savage also got several nominations, but went home with awards such as Best Vocal Performance (Female) in the Headies Award and Channel O Music Video Award for Most Gifted R&B Music Video of the Year.

In 2014, she won an award from the Nigeria Entertainment Award having emerged winner of Female Artiste of the Year category ahead of Niyola, Chidinma, Seyi Shay and Eva Alordiah. She also emerged Best Pop/R&B Artiste of the Year.

In the same year, she also bagged the MTV Africa Music Award for Best Female Artiste ahead of the likes of Arielle T, Efya, Chidinma and DJ C’ndo. Still in 2014, Tiwa Savage emerged winner of the 2014 City People Music Award for the category Best Collaboration of the Year.

This year, she was also a winner at the Headies Award where she went home with the award for Best Collaboration for the song ‘Ma Lo’ which featured another top act, Wizkid. She won the award ahead of other popular artiste such as Simi, Wizkid, Maleek Berry and Burna Boy.

Emerging as the first female act to win the ‘Best African Act’ category at the MTV Europe Music Awards is indeed a big one for the African queen of Afropop.
