I’ M RUNNING FOR SENATE TO LEAD OKIGWE ZONE TO PROSPERITY AND NOT ADVERSITY

The former Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly and the All Progressive Congress APC, senatorial candidate, for the botched Okigwe rerun election, Rt. Hon Benjamin Uwajumogu, has reiterated his determination to pull Okigwe zone out of backwardness if elected, stressing that he is running for senate to lead the people of Okigwe zone to prosperity and not adversity

The former Speaker, who gave the assurance during a meeting with the people of Ehime Mbano, at Ehime Mbano council headquarters, in Ehime Mbano local government area, said, enactment of relevant laws and motions that will have direct impact on the well-being of Okigwe people, advancing Okigwe course and linking it sons and daughters to the national grid, men and women empowerment, agriculture, small scale businesses and employment generation, industrialization of the zone, electricity supply and completion of all existing projects he attracted or initiative while in office,  would top his priorities if elected.

He listed some of the projects he attracted or initiated in the six local government areas that made up the zone, to include, the construction of over 15 km of rural roads in the six local governments, construction of six general hospital, construction of new schools in each electoral ward, the Obowu Malaysian market, the attraction of three tertiary institutions in the zone, the Okigwe urban renewal projects, that facilitated the installation of stainless steel street lights  and the construction of a cultural centre by the state governor, construction and development of new cities and many other projects, which he vowed to work for their completion, if he is giving the chance to represent the zone in the National Assembly.

This is, even as, he stressed that he would bring his legislative experience as a ranking member of the National Assembly,  his business and entrepreneurial acumen to bear in fostering socio-political, cultural and economic development in the area with a view to improving living conditions of the people.

The APC candidate also assured that he would go the whole hog insuring rapid development of Okigwe zone, so much so that ‘’ every average Okigwe person will walk tall anywhere in Nigeria’’.

While emphasizing the need to address bad road network and epileptic power supply which has remained an albatross and the bane of economic development of the zone, Uwajumogu, recalled how he used his personal resources to construct roads in the zone, as well as distributed not less than 30 electricity transformers to some communities in the area, during his Speakership days and assured that he would provide more facilities for the people if they give him a chance,

Other areas he promised to spur development in the area, include tourism, sports, skill acquisition, education, entertainment, health, lighting up of Okigwe and its adjourning towns, refurbishing the Okigwe regional water project, Avutu poultry, Nsu tiles and intensifying rice farming and production in the area.

He said: ‘’my dreams and aspirations remain to develop Okigwe zone, insist that education continues to be free and compulsory, come up with legislations that can improve the healthcare delivery system and agriculture, run a functional and all-inclusive administration that will connect our people to the National grid and see development and growth not as an end by itself, but as a tool to create a society that works for both the rich and the poor.’’
