Heritage Bank Canvasses Stronger Support for Women Entrepreneurs at Genevieve Magazine’s Workshop on Women Empowerment

For the nation to achieve desired economic growth and stability in the medium to long term, more efforts would have to be devoted to empowerment of women entrepreneurs.

This was the major view canvassed by Heritage Bank at the one-day workshop on Women Empowerment organised by Genevieve Gatherings, an offshoot of Genevieve Magazine. The theme of the workshop which held at the Eko Hotel and Suites on Thursday was “Becoming Financially Fearless”.

Speaking on behalf of Heritage Bank at the event, Olaide Okubanjo who stood in for the Group Head, SME Banking, Bayo Ogunnusi, noted that the Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector in the country is largely dominated by female entrepreneurs whose activities as pivot of national economic growth and stability deserve support.

He observed that the MSME sector needs to be encouraged through provision of massive financial and other logistic supports because it has huge potentials to stimulate overall national economic growth.

“Women entrepreneurs have proved to be very resourceful, pragmatic and focused as can be seen in the dynamics of the growth and evolution of the MSME culture in the country, especially in the past decade. This trend needs to be sustained for the nation to benefit greatly. In this regard, empowerment of women entrepreneurs needs to be given greater attention by financial services providers”

“Heritage Bank is always willing and ready to provide loan and other financial advisory supports to women and other entrepreneurs who are looking for ways to start and grow their businesses and we shall continue to encourage women to avail themselves of the financial services available for small and medium enterprises”.

Another speaker at the event, Mr. Tonye Cole who is the co-founder and Group Executive Director of Sahara Group, revealed that most women naturally have the potentials to be successful but only need to carefully study their environment and strategically identify business opportunities that would eventually translate to wealth.

Also speaking at the event, Nimi Akinkugbe, Founder and Chief Executive officer of Bestman Games Ltd, advised women to take charge of their finances by understanding the financial planning process as this enables them steer their businesses along the path of long term financial stability.

The workshop, which was an initiative of Genevieve Gatherings, an offshoot of Genevieve Magazine by Betty Irabor, is an empowerment forum for aspiring entrepreneurs, especially women, to learn viable and successful business tips from industry experts and to also empower them on how to improve their businesses and financial future.
