Babatunde Fashola, The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, has become the laughing stock of a lot of people.

This comes after the former Governor of Lagos State was quoted saying that that injuries and avoidable accidents that occur on highways are not always due to bad roads as claimed by many Nigerian road users.

The Minister stated this when he spoke at a capacity building workshop on the activation of the five United Nations’ Convention on Road Traffic acceded to by Nigeria in Abuja Wednesday, March 20th.

According to the Minister, over speeding and reckless driving are the main causes of accidents on Nigerian roads.

In a statement issued by the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing on Wednesday, the minister noted that injuries and avoidable accidents that occurred daily on highways were regrettable.

The statement said Fashola told participants at the workshop that there was no state in Nigeria that the Federal Government was not executing one road project or the other.

Since the statement, the Minister has come under serious criticism, as questions on the sense in his claim have been asked.
