Pay TV service provider, MultiChoice Nigeria is fast loosing its reputation due to numerous reports of abuse of copyright.

The company which is now synonymous with airing movies without the permission to do so has been dragged to court by popular Nollywood twins, Chidimma and Chidiebere Aneke.

This habit has now become a common thing at the organization to the extent that staffers of the media relation department laugh at movie producer when they decide to seek redress in court. It is a common thing to find staffers of the media department saying “go to court if you like we already have many cases there.”

Information available to www.theoctopusnews.com revealed that MultiChoice allegedly aired one of the twin’s movie titled ‘Compulsory Risk’, on one of its platforms without authorisation, hence the movie stars heading for the court to seek redress. The said film was aired on November 5, 2010.

Over the years, MultiChoice Nigeria has been alleged of cooking up fake documents to back up their claims when they run into issues related with airing movies without having the right to do so.

The copyright of ‘Compulsory Risk’ was applied for by the twins on 04/09/2009, while they received the Acknowledgement of Copyright Notification on the 14/12/2009.

The movie was also censored at the National Film and Video Censors Board, Onitsha, Anambra State, on 11/09/09, with the censorship approval received on 05/10/2009.

The movie was released on December 2009. Funny enough this will not be the first time MultiChoice Nigeria will be alleged of such a crime.
