Akin Fadeyi Foundation Takes NOT IN MY COUNTRY Anti-Corruption Campaign To Abuja Secondary Schools

In appreciation of the European Union (EU) fully funded Anti-Corruption programme in Nigeria, managed by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Akin Fadeyi Foundation (AFF), creator of the Pan-Nigeria campaign against retail corruption has reiterated its commitment to involve more Nigerian Students in the battle against corruption and other forms of social vices dragging Nigeria backward.

Executive Director of Akin Fadeyi Foundation, Mr. Akin Fadeyi during a recently held Capacity Building workshop for Secondary Schools in Dutse and Gwagwalada Education Districts in Abuja respectively where two hundred students received training on Anti-Corruption Tips for students, integrity, accountability, self-discipline, Honesty,  Diversity issues, Leadership, Sacrifice and more.

Akin noted further that “Although corruption or corrupt practices is a global challenge, but we believe it can be managed. It cannot be bigger than the future of Nigeria. This is why we have designed a grass-root oriented Anti-Corruption Capacity Building Campaign targeting students of Secondary Schools. And we are extremely grateful to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) under the Project on Support to Anticorruption in Nigeria which is fully funded by the European Union for partnering  with our nationwide campaign against retail and petty corruption- NOT IN MY COUNTRY”

According to one of the speakers and Premium Times reporter, Mr. Ogundipe, who spoke on the theme: “How to Identify Corrupt Practices,’ shared his experience with the youth on how he has never allowed monetary or pecuniary gains to obstruct his line of duty as a journalist who must consistently work within the ethical standards of decency as a watchdog of the society.

“Many times I have turned down gifts and money offerings which I sense might cuff my hands and prevent me from discharging my lawful duties as a journalist,” 

Other speakers at the Capacity Building include popular Nollywood Actor, Jude Orhorha and Project Coordinator, Speakers’ Corner Trust Nigeria, Marylyn Iya Ogbebor, both of whom spoke on “You Can Succeed Without Cutting Corners” and “Excelling in Examinations Without Malpractices”respectively.  Their lectures received massive accolades from Students and Teachers who graced the training.

While commending all the Speakers, the Project Officer, Akin Fadeyi Foundation, Mr. Ganiyu Olowu reiterated the essence of the Anti-Corruption initiative thus:

Our vision is a Catch-Them-Young approach to tackling corruption. We know that that Nigeria has a huge population of young people in this category and they are very germane in the nationwide campaign against corruption. They are the future and hope of Nigeria. We must involve them in the conversation for a new and better Nigeria. They have power and boundless energy to change many things from their thinking, attitude to life, national issues, nation building, mutual interaction, enterprise and national integrity”.

Ganiyu noted that this anti-corruption knowledge-sharing session for Secondary Schools in Abuja attracted award of EU/UNDP/UNODC endorsed Certificate of Participation among other give-away to the participants.  Some of the key learning include integrity, accountability, self-discipline, Honesty, Anti-Corruption Tips, Diversity issues, Leadership, Sacrifice and more.

He explained that “during the Lagos edition of the anti-corruption training, we featured the popular presenters of Your View from the Television Continental – led by Morayo Afolabi-Brown and renowned Nollywood Actors; Hafiz Oyetoro a.k.a. Saka and Jude Orhorha as trainers for the future Leaders”.

Some of the schools that befitted from the Anti-Corruption Capacity Building in Abuja are Government Girls Secondary School Dutse; Government Day Secondary School, Dutse-Alhaji; Government Secondary School Bwari; Government Day Secondary School Bwari; Government Secondary School, Gwagwalada; Government Secondary School, Kwali;  Government Secondary School, Hajj Camp and School For The Gifted, Gwagwalada  amongst others.
